This October I took a trip to German to visit some innovative stormwater sites. It seemed that green roofs, porous pavements, and stormwater conveyance channels were everywhere. The sites I visited provided many inspirational design ideas that I am anxious to apply on my own projects. They seem to have a different appreciation for integration of sustainable stormwater elements into their developments.
I recently visited a unique sustainable community that is under development in Salem, Oregon. The development preserved 80 percent of the existing trees on site, and a majority of the streets in the development are porous asphalt.
This is a housing development in West Seattle, Washington that I visited in the summer of 2006. It has a variety of interesting sustainable stormwater solutions such as porous concrete sidewalks and roads, vegetated facilities, and a beautiful community garden.
